In separate incidents unidentified gunmen abducted and shot dead the army chief of the Kangleipak Communist Party, KCP at Gwaltabi area in Imphal East last night while another militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos in Yairipok today.
The KCP leader Chingangbam Ibohal alias Dhruba alias Robert (35) of Kangla Sangomsang is the younger brother of another KCP leader Bhorot who was killed by police some years back.
Family sources said Ibohal was abducted by 30-40 unidentified gunmen from Sanasabi near Yaingangpokpi at 4.30 pm yesterday.
His dead body was recovered near the Gwaltabi Forest gate this morning.
The deceased was shot at his head.
Lamlai police has retrieved the body and post mortem has been conducted at the RIMS mortuary today.
Ibohal joined the KCP five years back.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
He had been arrested 5-6 times.
In another incident, a militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos at Yairipok Chandrakhong under Yairipok police station at around 12.5 noon today.
The unidentified militant was shot dead by a combined team of Imphal east and West commandos.
The victim received multiple bullet injuries, according to the police.
Police claimed to have recovered on AK-56 rifle with two magazines and a token written MYA from the slain militant.
